I never know what is going to inspire my next design. Sometimes a doodle will trigger a thought, maybe a walk, or a texture in a shadow. This time it was travel. Seeing. being. allowing those thoughts to flow in and out of my head freely. Unblocked. Unprovoked.
When we travel, we stop. For anything.
On our recent trip to Utah we stopped at a rest stop in the middle of Nevada (many actually). This one happened to be at the edge of the Bonneville Salt Flats. Being car enthusiests, we had to wander a bit. Read the history, feel the salt. Imagine we could see the racing cars going 400 mph. The surroundings were picturesk. The ground was white like snow that sparkled in the sun. Cracks that looked like the inside of geodes ran in all directions. The mountains were purple with snowcaps that reflected as perfect images in the pools of water. The sky, so blue.
The place sent a thousand thoughts through my brain. A whole collection was designed in the next hour in the van.
Take a pit stop, breath, stretch and see what the world around you has to offer. The world can be an inspiring place.
Copper doesn't like to be ignored. It gets moody and dark when left in a jewelry box alone.
Like it shiny? Wear it. Take it for a night on the town with your favorite little black dress. (copper and black look amazing together!) Its the natural oils from your skin that keep it looking sparkly. Make your cuff your new summer staple, that you can even wear to the beach. Only those without patinas (beautiful colors), or etchings (drawings) though! You can even wear your copper pieces (again not the ones with patinas or etchings) in the hot tub or hot springs. The hot water and chemicals that keep the water clean for you, make your copper look polished again. Copper can be your go to assessory. Slap on a statement cuff or dangly earrings and you look instantly pulled together, and it will love you for it too.
The elements can also play a factor in your shade of copper.
These two cuffs made from the same piece of reclaimed copper, worn about 5 days a week for 10 years. Never polished, just worn. One lives at the ocean in the Northwest, the other lives in the Mountains in California. Both are shiny, but are two different shades of copper. Why? The air.
For those pieces with beautiful blues and greens (patinas), take care of them. Put them in an air tight ziplock before tossing them in your jewelry box or purse. Never wear them in the shower, or to the beach. The colors will fade if you damage the protective layer on top.
Did your copper jewelry come from Revive Tahoe? Need a "factory polish job" drop me a note. I don't recommend trying a "do it yourself" approach from off the internet. You can damage the finish and it won't come back.
For the love of copper, NEVER sleep in your jewelry!
Definition of revive:
Bring new life to: rejuvenate, refresh, renew.
To give new health, strength, or spirit to.
Revive is a way of life. It's a thought process. Always evolving, changing, refreshing. From your style to your mood, to the way you view the world. It's about making something better.
For Revive Tahoe it means creating cherished pieces of copper jewelry using scrap metals once discarded. Vases stand out as art pieces with one of a kind designs. Custom etched toasting flutes help celebrate a couples new life together, or the reunion of two old friends.
For myself Revive means finding ways to recharge. I am a wife & a Mom to two wonderful pre-teen boys (three if you include my husband). We live in a cabin in Lake Tahoe, we work, travel, play sports, build things, create, teach, learn & relax. All the while finding time to follow my childhood dream of "being an artist".
This blog is about LIVing the life you LOVE and making the world a more beautiful place.
Live. Love. Revive.
